GET A LITTLE JAMES TAYLOR fix from someone "funkier than James Taylor," says singer, songwriter and guitarist Jeff Kloetzel, who's playing at South Stage Cellars from 5 to 7 p.m. It's that cozy tasting room at 125 S. Third St., Jacksonville. Kloetzel will perform originals and arrangements of songs by The Beatles, Kenny Loggins, Duncan Sheik, Amos Lee and others.

SEE A GIANT KALEIDOSCOPE during ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum's Toy Science exhibit, which runs through January at 1500 E. Main St., Ashland. The exhibit features classic toys that have been recreated on a larger scale, including life-size Wooly Willies. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $9 for adults, $7 for children 2 to 12 and adults older than 65, and free on the first Wednesday of every month. HOW OIL CHANGED railroading in Southern Oregon is the topic of a "Windows in Time" lecture by Central Point railroad historian Larry Mullaly. His talk, "The Great Transformation: How Bakersfield Oil Changed Southern Oregon Railroading," will be from noon to 1 p.m. at the Ashland library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd. The illustrated talk will look at how the discovery of oil in Bakersfield, Calif., in the 1890s led to the use of liquid rather than wood fuel.
