Two arrested with 44 pounds of pot on I-5
Two Seattle residents were arrested Friday night with 44 pounds of marijuana after a traffic stop on Interstate 5 north of Medford.
Jessie Olivia Tear, 39, who was driving, and Patrick James Haenelt III, 44, were allegedly pulled over for speeding at 9:23 p.m. at Milepost 31 by an Oregon State Police trooper, according to an OSP news release.
The trooper found three garbage bags "containing individually sealed packages of marijuana" concealed in the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta the pair were driving, OSP said.
Police estimated the street value of the pot at $88,000.
Tear and Haenelt were lodged in the Jackson County Jail for unlawful possession and distribution of a controlled substance - marijuana.
Haenelt was being held this morning on $40,000 bail. Tear's bail was also set at $40,000.
