Sheriff's department discusses gang activity

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department will give a presentation on gang activity from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Auditorium, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford.

It is the first in a monthly series of free presentations the department plans on public safety issues.

"Color Wars: An Inside Look at Gangs in Southern Oregon" will address the presence of area gangs and how often drug-related crimes and murder are tied to gang activity. How gangs impact the Jackson County Jail, effects of gang activity on children and consequences for area business also will be discussed.

Upcoming classes will include the Internet and child sex crimes, mental health issues at the jail, self defense and business protection. Organizers warn that the presentations might include explicit pictures and videos.

Call the sheriff's department at 541-774-6800 for more information.
