Phoenix High grad scores Super Bowl tickets
No matter who wins, it'll be a Super Bowl Sunday to remember for one Seahawks fan.
Tiffany Ross, a Phoenix High School grad and former softball standout who recently relocated to Seattle, received word from Alaska Airlines that she won a trip to New York as part of the airline's "Russell Wilson's 12th Fan Airlift Sweepstakes."
"I was one of 56 winners, and 60,000 people entered the contest," Ross said.
The prize includes a chartered flight with the Seahawks quarterback and a weekend in New York.
Ross received word Monday night, and "I sort of didn't believe it, so I didn't tell anyone until I talked to Alaska Airlines," she said. "I thought I was getting scammed because I had to give my Social Security number."
That information, Ross verified with the airline, was required for tax purposes.
She entered the Facebook promotion weeks ago as a long-shot gift for her boyfriend, Jason Anglin.
"I just couldn't ask for a better birthday present to give my boyfriend," she said.
The trip for two is more than just a flight to the Big Apple, according to Ross. It's also a weekend with other fans.
"We fly out Saturday morning, and we board what's called an on-flight tailgating party," Ross said. "They feed us, and drinks, and it's just this huge Super Bowl party for all Seahawks fans."
Ross, who works as a teacher at John Hay Elementary School in Seattle, said a trip like this would normally be outside her means.
"I'm a second-grade teacher," Ross said. "That's what's really cool — I could never do this."
She's grateful for her stroke of good luck.
"I don't ever enter contests. I don't buy lottery tickets, anything," she said.
Ross is particularly looking forward to her luxury hotel accommodations.
"We are staying at this, like, five-star hotel," she said. "I'm looking at pictures, and it's like nothing I've ever seen. It's gorgeous."
