Spartans swept by SLC Moose
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The Southern Oregon Spartans were pelted with six consecutive goals by Salt Lake City, which claimed an 8-3 win and three-game sweep of the Spartans on Sunday at Steiner Ice Arena.
The Spartans' only lead of the game lasted 20 seconds when Ben Henry netted midway through the second period to put Southern Oregon up 2-1 after Ging Martin knotted the score 1-all with a goal earlier in the frame.
Brett Meyer started the six-goal outburst by the Moose (26-11-1-1 Western States Hockey League), who have claimed a playoff spot in the Northwest Division, by tying the score back up at 2-all.
The Spartans (10-23-2-2 WSHL), who have lost 11 of their last 12 games, also received a goal from Arturs Buss on a penalty shot in the third period before the Moose tacked on one more goal. The Moose got goals from eight different players.
