Learn about endangered tortoises

The founder of an animal sanctuary in the Applegate will talk about work to protect about two dozen endangered desert tortoises that will move to the Kerulos Center's Tortoise and Hare Sanctuary this spring.

Gay Bradshaw, founder of the Kerulos Center, will speak from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, at the Applegate library, 18485 N. Applegate Road.

The tortoises suffered injuries and deformities due to poor care as pets and were slated to be euthanized. They currently live at the Nevada-based Desert Tortoise Conservation Center, a federal facility that is shutting down.

Refreshments will be available at the free event. For more information, contact the Applegate library at 541-846-7346.
