La Clinica adds health center at Scenic Middle School
La Clinica plans to open a health center at Scenic Middle School next week.
Starting on Monday, March 3, students at the Central Point school will have the opportunity to visit a nurse or nurse practitioner every day during school hours. A mental health therapist will be available several times a week starting in the fall. The center also will be open to 2- to 18-year-old siblings of students enrolled at the school.
Scenic, at 1955 Scenic Ave., is the fifth Central Point district school to offer La Clinica services on campus. La Clinica operates health centers at Jewett Elementary School and Crater High School and provides outreach services at Central Point and Mae Richardson elementary schools.
La Clinica officials said they were excited to extend services into the middle school.
Students can be seen without appointments for immediate concerns or families can schedule appointments with a nurse practitioner for primary care services. Services available at the school will include routine physicals, sports exams, immunizations, vision and hearing screenings, diagnosis and treatment of minor illnesses and chronic health issues, treatment of minor complaints and injuries, and behavioral health screenings and assessments, treatment and counseling.
Health center employees bill insurance, including the Oregon Health Plan, for students who are insured. They offer service on an income-based sliding scale for uninsured students. They also can help families get kids signed up for Oregon Healthy Kids, an Oregon program that makes most children eligible for free or low-cost health care.
Students must have parents' permission to be seen at the center. Registration forms are available at the school office.
