Another White City man arrested in Hale Way drive-by shooting
The Jackson County Sheriff's Department has arrested a fifth person in connection to a May 7 drive-by shooting on Hale Way in White City, police said.
The sheriff's department SWAT team arrested Devon James Wright, 19, of the 8000 block of Hale Way, on a warrant just before 9 a.m. today, a news release from the department said.
Four other suspects, Osbaldo David Espinoza, 21; Cristobal Lynn Barajas, 21; Christian Omar Espinoza, 19; and a 17-year-old boy, all from White City, were arrested early this week and also face charges for their alleged involvement in the shooting that peppered one home in the 8000 block of Hale Way with shotgun pellets.
Wright is lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, pointing a firearm at another and second-degree disorderly conduct, jail records show. His bail is set at $15,000.
It is unknown whether Wright, who attempted to flee when police arrived, has any gang affiliation, the release said.
The drive-by shooting took place at about 7 p.m. on May 7, police said. A blue Pontiac Sunfire was seen speeding away before crashing into a yard, nearly running over the resident of that home. Suspects ran from the crashed car, leaving a shotgun behind.
Police said Wednesday there were four male occupants in the vehicle and they suspect the 17-year-old fired a shotgun several times out the window.
