Sally Putman Butler Somers
Sally Butler Somers set out on her next great adventure, May 15, 2014. She was born June 29, 1932 to Jonathan Fairchild Butler and Mary Elizabeth Putnam in New York City. She attended Burr and Burton in Vermont and met her soon-to-be husband James Francis Somers. After high-school, Sally went to Parson's School of Design. There she won the coveted Golden Thimble in 1955.
While living in Newport Beach with her four children, she was active in PTA, Girl Scouts, and National Charity League. Celebrations were just that. She loved having an open door and room for one more at her table. She worked in Real Estate, and made lasting friends at Waterfront Homes.
She continued to design, build, and volunteer in Los Osos, California. She devoted herself to Operation School Bell and St. Benedict's Church. She loved seeing her granddaughters and was active in Assistance League, Brown Baggers, and her Book Club.
She moved to Anna Maria Creekside in 2013. She made fast friends; playing Canasta, designing her hand-knit dolls, and firing off suggestions to the chef. A glass of wine, friends, and the sunset from her balcony were the perfect way to toast her day.
She was preceded in death by sister Nancy Butler White, James Somers, and grandson Michael Somers. Jonathan Butler and Grace Butler Johnson; children, spouses, and grandchildren: James Butler Somers, Dena Walstrom, Jade, Ryan, and Taylor; Peter Somers, Cherie, Shannon, Johanna, and Isabella; Marcia Somers La Fond, Dan, Daniel, and James; and Elizabeth Somers and Dave Adkins wish her well as she jitterbugs her way to the stars.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday June 28, 2014 at Anna Maria Creekside, 822 Golf View Drive.
