Boy, girl All-Stars gear up for games
For the eighth year, we're happy to welcome the top high school players in the region for the Mail Tribune All-Star Basketball Classic on Friday at Kids Unlimited.
The girls square off at 6 p.m., the boys at 7:30, and all the proceeds go to Kids Unlimited.
It's a fun time, with players from all levels, classes 6A to 1A, sharing the floor. They're the kids we've been writing about all winter, through the culmination of state-tournament play last weekend.
For the All-Star games, players from the same schools play against each other, and all the starters are determined by online voting. As of Tuesday evening, there were nearly 15,000 votes cast.
The games are often fast-paced and high scoring. The winning boys team scored 102 points in in 2012 and 99 in 2010. The girls winner has been in the 70s the past five years.
Teams are chosen randomly, but the Siskiyou boys have a five-game winning streak.
Julissa Tago of South Medford returns as the girls MVP. Last year's boys MVP was Crater's Connor Lane.
