Williamson wins Wild West race
WHITE CITY — Eugene’s Jesse Williamson kicked off the Wild West Modified Shootout with a victory at Southern Oregon Speedway on Saturday night.
Starting toward the front, Williamson grabbed the top spot and seemed to have the field covered. Things would get a little interesting toward the end of the main event, however, as several late cautions kept the field bunched. But Williamson still managed to triumph for his seventh career Wild West victory.
Jerry Schram of Vancouver, Wash., was second, while defending Shootout champion Alex Stanford of Chowchilla, Calif., took third.
Drivers from North Dakota, Montana, Arizona and California joined others from Oregon, Washington and Nevada to race for the $1,000 top prize.
In dwarf cars, CJ Putnam made his way back to the winner’s circle after passing Josh King about two-thirds of the way into the main event.
