Robert 'Bob' Duane Coash
Robert “Bob” Duane Coash passed away February 24, 2016 at home. He was born July 21, 1926 in Fremont, Neb. to Tennis Phillip Coash and Lottie May Ryan.
Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1944 attending boot camp at Farragut, Idaho. After receiving his motor machinist mate degree in diesel school, he served aboard the USS Valencia during World War II and was discharged June 1946.
In June 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving during the Korean War and a year of duty on the Cape Hinchinbrook Light Station in Alaska, ending his service in July 1953.
He married Sally Jane Anderson in 1949 and they had three sons. To escape the cold winters of Omaha, Neb. they moved to Medford, Ore. In 1954, he joined the Medford Fire Department and after 26 years of service, retired in 1981 as a Captain.
On February 6, 1966 he married Diane Louise Carter, recently celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Bob and Diane first met at the Roxy Ann Bowling Lanes where they both participated in league bowling. Together they shared many fun adventures, camping on the Oregon Coast, hunting, and traveling by motorhome. Each year they planted a large garden at their home.
After retirement, he pursued his fascination for magic, and with lots of practice, he became a magician and a member of The Society of American Magicians performing at birthday parties for all ages, special events, and many seasons of the Children’s Festival at Britt. He enjoyed volunteering at the Southern Oregon Humane Society, and with Jackson County Library System’s Story Mobile Program. He was a long-time member of Christ Unity Church of Medford.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane; his sons, Clifford (Francine), Phillip, and Scott (Cindy); his daughter, Sandy Holderness; his grandchildren, Skyler Conner-Coash (Ada), Kevin Jeffers (Jill), Kelsey Frantz (Jeremy), and Kelly Coash; his great-grandchildren, Emma Conner-Coash, Jayden, Lyla, and Henry Jeffers; his sister-in-law, Joanne Coash; his brother-in-law, Marvin Jacobsen; as well as many nieces and nephews, and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William; his first wife, Sally; and his sister-in-law, Doris Jacobsen.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, March 4, 2016 at Perl Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd, Medford, Ore. 97504, with a reception to follow.
