Lavina Michelle Bowers
May 9, 1989 - May 3, 2016
Lavina had a beautiful spirit and laugh that lit and filled our hearts every day of her life. She will always be loved, dearly missed, and held in the hearts of those who knew her.
Lavina was raised in Ashland, Oregon, and excelled in all she did while growing up, 4-H, Pony Club, basketball, and painting. After high school, she earned a degree with honors from the Boulder School of Massage Therapy and was taking courses at the College of the Redwoods.
Lavina’s love for her friends and family was enduring. She was a talented artist who found beauty in all things. She was a beautiful Yurok singer who participated in Yuork traditional ceremonies. She loved fishing on the Klamath River with her family.
She was born to families of deeply spiritual people. On her father’s side, she descends from traditional Yurok tribal leaders; feather and medicine people from the village of Rekwoi. On her mother’s side, she descends from a long line of Christian pastors and those who chose to serve others. Lavina held her spiritual life closely.
Lavina is survived by her loving parents, Bill and Diane Bowers; sisters, Amy, her husband, Daniel Cordalis and their children, Brooks and Keane; Stephanie and her husband, Josh Stanton, and their children, Aubrie, Dean, and Dylann; Ashley Bowers and Devin Mahoney; brother, William Bowers; paternal grandmother, Lavina Bowers; maternal grandparents, Verle and Chris Mitchell; and numerous aunties, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Pioneer Hall, 73 Winburn Way, Lithia Park, Ashland, Ore.
