Samuel Morris Rosen
Samuel M. Rosen, 94, passed away peacefully May 12, 2016, surrounded by family and friends in Ashland, Ore. He maintained his quick wit, passion for politics and social justice, and perennial sociability until his last day.
Born to Max Rosen and Ida Leboff October 19, 1921, Sam graduated North High in Minnesota, and received a bachelor of arts in education from UCLA and a master degree in special education at Cal Lutheran College.
“Everybody loves Sam,” was the refrain heard from his friends, neighbors, and relatives. Sam loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchild, participating in politics at all levels, and supporting causes to benefit the greater good; writing, especially letters to the editor, registering voters, taking classes, traveling, reading, playing Scrabble, attending concerts, and exercising. He was an aspiring actor and held a variety of jobs before finding his niche as a special education teacher of adolescents at Camarillo State Hospital.
Sam is survived by his daughters, Jacqueline Rosen and Lynn Rosen; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his younger sister, Bess Weisman; and his beloved wife of 60 years, Blanche.
