New exhibits highlight First Friday art walk

Abstract landscapes by Nina Bindi, pastel paintings of Yosemite's landmark scenery by Leif Trygg, ceramic sculpture by Robin and John Gumaelius and handmade vessels by Marge Heilman will be in the spotlight during the Ashland Galleries Association's art walk to be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 3, in downtown Ashland, the Railroad District and at Southern Oregon University.

Bindi uses acrylic paints and natural materials to create the textural surfaces of her landscapes to be displayed at Shepherd's Dream on A Street. Pastel artist Trygg of Oak Leaf Studio on Oak Street celebrates his lifelong love for Yosemite National Park with an exhibit of large landscape paintings, including one of Bridal Veil Falls in the park.

The Gumaeliuses' theatrical and whimsical ceramic figures, along with painter Jon Jay Cruson's abstract landscapes, will be displayed at Hanson Howard Gallery on Oak Street. Heilman's baskets and vessels will be at Art & Soul Gallery on East Main Street.

Look for opening receptions at participating galleries. Pick up gallery tour maps at any of the listed galleries, the Ashland Chamber of Commerce or download one from www.ashlandgalleries.com.

Park free after 4 p.m. behind the Schneider Museum of Art and ride the Allaboard Trolley from 5 to 10 p.m. between the museum, A Street, the Ashland Plaza and East Main Street. Fired Up Food Truck will be at the site, along with beer from Standing Stone Brewing Company.
