Despite big rally, Rogues defeated
CHICO, Calif. — A huge rally in the seventh inning by Medford went for naught after Chico scored a run in the bottom of the frame, then held on for an 8-7 Great West League baseball win Tuesday.
The first-place Rogues (17-8) dropped their second straight game despite rebounding from a 7-0 deficit with seven runs in the seventh.
The Heat (13-14) pushed across the eventual game-winner in its half of the seventh when leadoff batter Jacob Westerman walked, went to second on a fielder's choice, got to third on a wild pitch and scored on error by second baseman Derron Davis.
Chico scored three runs each in the fourth and sixth innings to build its 7-0 lead.
In the Rogues' seventh, leadoff hitter Billy Fredrick reached first on an error and, after a flyout, Jared Dunning walked. A strikeout by Ian Nowak produced the second out, then the Rogues erupted.
Connor McNally tripled in two runs, then scored on a Davis single. Davis stole second and scored on Brock Pradere's single to pull Medford within 7-4.
Pradere, who had two of the Rogues' seven hits, followed Davis' lead, stealing second and scoring on a Spencer Steer single. After a Connor Lowrie single, Fredrick brought in the final two runs with a double.
Medford's Parker Kelly worked the last two innings and took the loss, dropping to 0-2.
