Red-hot Rogues run streak to eight

No team in the Great West League is hotter than the first-place Medford Rogues.

Medford won its eighth straight and pushed its lead in GWL to 4½ games over second-place Marysville Monday with a 5-3 victory over the Gold Sox at Harry & David Field.

The Rogues (26-11) trailed for just half of an inning when Marysville (22-16) scored two runs — one on a fielding error — to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth.

Medford answered in the bottom when Johnny DeLaCruz’s one-out triple plated Cameron Russ to knot the score at 2-all. Parker Kelly followed with a groundout that brought in DeLaCruz and put the Rogues in front, 3-2.

DeLaCruz also drove in Spencer Steer in the sixth. Steer led off with a double. Steer scored again in the seventh on Connor Lowrie’s single.

Steer went 2-for-3 — both were doubles — while Kelly and Russ collected two hits apiece.

Rogues starter Kyle Robeniol improved to 3-1. He threw five innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Reliever Tristan Duncan pitched the final four innings to earn the save.

The Rogues host the Gold Sox at 6:35 tonight.
