Akropolis Reed Quintet
Chamber Music Concerts Kicks off its 2016-2017 season with the Akropolis Reed Quintet's "The Space Between Us," a program that includes Jacob Ter Veldhuis' "Jesus is Coming," Marc Mellits' "Splinter," David Biedenbender's "Refraction" and John Steinmetz' "Sorrow and Celebration," at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus, 405 S. Brews and Boogie
ScienceWorks Hands-on Museum will host its 12th annual Brews and Boogie — a beer festival and dance party for ages 21 and older — at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the science museum, 1500 E. Main St., Ashland. Look for live music by rock, funk and soul band The Rogue Suspects and alt-rock group Slow Corpse. DJ G-Rad will mix music between sets and into the night. There will be quaffs from a dozen regional breweries, hard cider and local wines, along with food, games and prizes. This annual fundraiser benefits ScienceWorks' education programs. Designated drives get a $5 discount.
Soul and R&B singer, songwriter and harmonica player Curtis Salgado will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Historic Rogue Theatre, 143 S.E. H St., Grants Pass. Salgado's newest, "The Beautiful Lowdown," released to rave reviews in April on the Alligator Records label. Rogue Valley Jeff All-Stars
The second annual gathering of Jeff All-Stars will perform from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at Grizzly Peak Winery, 1600 E. Nevada St., Ashland. Look for Jef Fretwell, Jeff Pevar, Jeff Kloetzel, Jeff Jones, Jeff Stanley, Jeff Ebnother, Bryan Jeffs and Jeffri Carrington as they join together to celebrate the music they love. Jefferson Public Radio's Geoffrey Riley will emcee the event. Fired Up Food Truck will be on site. A silent auction and wine will be available. Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra
Flamenco guitarist Ottmar Liebert and his band — bass guitarist Jon Gagan, drummer and percussionist Chris Steele and Peter Adama on accordion and keys — will perform rhythmic, Spanish-influenced instrumentals at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford. Liebert's 2015 "Waiting n Swan" is a mix of reggae, tango, flamenco and salsa, and it explores the roots these rhythms have in common — tied together by a blend of accordion, trumpet and array of percussion.
