Ashland galleries open late for First Friday art walk
Two new collections of digital collage, "The Disintegration Series" and "Broken Trains," by Bruce Bayard will be displayed through November at Studio AB, 621 A St., in Ashland's Railroad District.
The first series is filled with undramatic or poor quality photographs that are eroded and defaced to evoke deteriorating memories of metaphoric places. The second, "Broken Trains," features wide panoramas of box cars and freight cars that roll slowly through the Railroad District. Each is a created with successive multiple quick-shutter stills combined to create disjunct views. The sequential images are combined with layers of abstract textures to reconnect the images with a new kind of visual rhythm.
"Art on Paper: 10 Women Artists" at the Schneider Museum of Art on the Southern Oregon campus is another highlight on the First Friday art walk in Ashland. The exhibit showcases artwork by internationally prominent female artists who blazed trails for others working today and contributed to the conversation of art history.
