Lopez third at folkstyle nationals
North Medford sophomore Kyleigh Lopez placed third Saturday in the USA Folkstyle Girls Wrestling Nationals in Oklahoma City to earn All-American honors for the second straight year.
Lopez, who won the triple crown a year ago, advanced to the semifinals in the Cadet 122-pound division but suffered a 4-1 loss to eventual champion Leilah Castro of Ohio.
Lopez had won 9-6 ovr Kortney Atchley of Illinois, 13-2 over Brooke-lyn Rush of Missouri and with a 57-second pin of Madison Miller of Oklahoma to earn her spot in the semis.
In the consolation bracket, Lopez pinned Ashley Whetzal of Virginia in 38 seconds and then pinned Heavynne Jerez of California in 1:41 in the third-place final.
TRACK AND FIELD: Ashland High graduate Wyatt Thompson-Siporen, a sophomore at Lane Community College in Eugene, won Westmont College's Jim Klein Multi Events decathlon in Santa Barbara, California, on Friday.
Thompson-Siporen scored 6764 points, with personal bests in the high jump (6-4) and the 1,500 meters (4:56). He tied his PR in the pole vault at (14-9).
