Charlotte Dyslin Horning

August 24, 1932 - May 7, 2017

Charlotte "Char" D. Horning passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, May 7, 2017 at her home in Lushmeadows, California. Char was born August 24, 1932 in Central City, Iowa, the daughter of Gordon and Orlie Horning and sister to Janet Moore of Sonoma County.

Char was a devoted housewife and mother to her four children before entering into the occupation of licensed marriage and family therapist after achieving her B.A. in Denver, Colorado and a master degree in San Francisco. She worked as a therapist serving women, families, and children for over 40 years. She raised her family in Marin County then moved to Ashland, Oregon in 1982 where she lived for 25 years before heading briefly to Friends House Santa Rosa then finally settling in Mariposa. She arrived in 2011 at her peaceful home in Mariposa which she named “Rainbow Rest”; a tranquil and peaceful retreat where she lived out her life. Mariposa fed her soul’s desire for the mountains, nature, fresh air, and good friends. Char was passionately involved in the Mariposa Hospice Care program and became a Master Gardener in 2012. She enjoyed gardening, painting, and cultivating deep connections with friends and family.

For over 50 years, painting was an expressive passion of hers which gave voice to her celebration of life and a journey to awakening. Her paintings were recently featured at the Mariposa Public Library and are currently being displayed at Slim's Koffee Shak in Mariposa.

She touched so many lives over the 84 years of her life and was one of those people who, after meeting her just once, became a dear friend.

Char is survived by her two daughters, Suzen Dyslin (husband, Don Florence) and Melanie Rudolph (husband, Bill) and her two sons, Mike Dyslin (wife, Marsha) and David Dyslin (wife, Peggy). Char was blessed with many grandchildren, Debbie, Michelle, Sara, Hannah, Joshua, Timothy, and Kristina; a niece, Laura; and nephews, Nate and Kevin.

Our lives will be forever touched by Char’s time here on this earth!

The family is planning a celebration of Char's life Saturday June 10 at Dawn Lake, 4962 Sierra Pines Road, in Lushmeadows Estates, Mariposa from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
