Deborah Louise Moore Holden

October 31, 1947 - August 8, 2017

Deborah Louise Moore Holden, 69, passed away August 8, 2017 due to complications from cancer in her home in Ashland, surrounded by loved ones. She will be profoundly missed and always be remembered as the beautiful, sweet, generous, caring, intelligent, strong woman, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and wife that she was.

Born on Halloween in Houston, Pennsylvania, along with her twin brother, Deborah persevered through many challenges as a young person, losing both her parents and her three best friends before the age of 19. In 1978, Deborah graduated from the New Hampshire Technical Institute as a Registered Nurse. She and her then-husband, Ted Holden, with their two-month old daughter, moved to Ashland, Oregon that same summer to be close to family. Deborah worked at Providence Medford Medical Center for 31 years, helping to start up the Outpatient Short Stay Unit when it opened in 1989.

In 1990, Deborah met and fell in love with her current husband Doug Shipley, and they lived a very loving life mountain biking; hiking; camping; learning to make wine, beer, cheese; roasting coffee beans; playing musical instruments; enjoying the local music scene; and raising children, grandchildren, and dogs together for 27 years.

Besides being dedicated to her work and family, Deborah also took a very active role in her community. She participated in the Jackson County Search and Rescue program, was a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer, was a Neighborhood Coordinator for the Ashland Food Project, volunteered in the Uncle Food’s Diner, and was part of the (then) Ashland Rowing Club for many years.

Deborah is survived by her husband, Doug Shipley; daughter, Katherine Holden; son, Teddy Holden; son-in-law, James Haim; daughter-in-law, Julia Fisher; granddaughters, Macy Haim and Luciana Holden; sister, Elizabeth Wrightman; brother-in-law, Paul Wrightman; brother, Doug Moore; sister-in-law, Kathy Vezina; niece, Bridey Mendoza-Moore; and nephews, James and John Reichmuth.
