Five picks for live entertainment
Outdoor and nature photographer George Lepp will be the keynote speaker at the annual Convention of the Columbia Council of Camera Clubs, to be held Friday through Sunday, Oct. 6-8, in the Stevenson Union on the Southern Oregon University campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. Lepp, field editor of Outdoor Photographer magazine, will be available at noon Saturday for photo tips, a Q-and-A, and discussion. The Southern Oregon Historical Society will host its annual scarecrow festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 7-8, at Historic Hanley Farm, 1053 Hanley Road, Central Point. The annual Harvest Festival in downtown Talent kicks off with a pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7. The 5K, 10K Run and Walk takes off at 8 a.m. The main attraction, the Grand Parade, will travel along Main Street at 10 a.m. Live music by Ur Mom, Ashland Taiko and The Rogue Suspects starts at 11 a.m. on the City Hall Stage. A clown and puppet show and dancing by Ballet Folklorico Ritmo Alegre will be at the Talent Skate Park. Look for growers' booths, food vendors, children's activities and a car and motorcycle show. There will be arts and crafts booths and a car and motorcycle show.
Jefferson Classical Guitar Society
Guitar duo Johannes Möller and Laura Fraticelli will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at Paschal Winery, 1122 Suncrest Road, Talent. Swedish-born Möller is a first-prize winner of the Guitar Foundation of America's 2010 Concert Artist Competition. His wife, Fraticelli, is a classical guitarist from Argentina. They studied at the Royal College of Music in London and the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. Johannes' newest album, “China,” was released last year. Admission is $20.
Bully! An Evening with Teddy Roosevelt
A performance by Teddy Roosevelt impersonator Joe Wiegand will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, in the Smullin Health Education Center, 2825 E. Barnett Road, on the Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center campus in Medford. Wiegand brings "Rough Rider" Teddy Roosevelt to life with his knowledge of personal anecdotes about the late president and adventurer. His career boasted such accomplishments as the creation of Crater Lake National Park in 1902. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at buttecreekmillfoundation. Proceeds benefit the rebuilding of Butte Creek Mill, a water-powered grist mill in Eagle Point that burned Christmas Day in 2015.
