RVCC golf instructor among state’s best

Ed Fisher, the Rogue Valley Country Club director of golf instruction, has been selected one of the top five teachers in Oregon following a survey by Golf Digest magazine.

It’s the third time Fisher, who was ranked fourth, has landed in the top five since the biennial ratings began in 2000.

The state rankings are a byproduct of the magazine’s quest to identify the top 50 instructors in America. It distributed more than 1,000 ballots to golf professionals across the country, and results were announced on hits website Monday.

Fisher, who operates the Ed Fisher Academy of Golf, has been at RVCC for 11 years.

Oregon’s top vote-getter was Jerry Mowlds, of Portland, followed by Bruce Furman (Langdon Farms, Aurora), Christopher Smith (Pumpkin Ridge, North Plains), Fisher and Grants Rogers (Bandon Dunes).

Another instructor with Rogue Valley ties, Noah Horstman, of Beechmont Country Club in Cleveland, was No. 3 in Ohio. Horstman was a 2002 graduate of South Medford High.
