Ashland golf teams shine as Grizzlies sweep competition at Centennial

MEDFORD — Wednesday proved to be one of the Ashland golf teams’ best showings of the young 2018 season.

The standings were full of Grizzlies when play at at Centennial Golf Course came to a close — not only individually, but as a team as well. Both the Ashland boys and girls teams finished in first place atop the leaderboard at the Cascade Christian scramble tournament.

Ashland’s boys team finished with a combined score of 153.

The Ashland girls had a combined score of 173.

On the boys side, the Grizzlies just edged out Phoenix and Rogue River for the top spot. Phoenix finished just one shot behind Ashland with a combined team score of 154, while Rogue River came in third with a 156 total on the day.

The North Medford girls finished second in the team standings with a 178, while Phoenix placed third with a 199 combined team score.

The pairing of Kadyn Kimbrough and Kevin Iriawan led the way for the Ashland boys, recording a combined score of 75.

John Ferriera and Gus Senn shot a combined score of 78, making the Grizzlies the only team in the tournament to have two combined inidividual team scores that were in the 70s.

Sam Wimmer and Sam Gander finished with a combined team score of 90.

On the girls’ side, Ashland’s the tandem of Ginny Cotton and Sophia Rooney led the Grizzlies with a combined score of 77, which earned them a second-place individual finish in the tournament.

Suttyn Barats and Luna Alvarez recorded a score of 96, while the Rylee-Schneider-Emily Robinson combo wasn’t too far behind with a combined score of 97.

Ashland will travel to Stoneridge Golf Course in Eagle Point on Monday, April 2, for its next event.


ASHLAND 8, NORTH MEDFORD 0: At Ashland, the Grizzlies didn’t lose a single set the entire day as they cruised to a win over the Black Tornado.

Ashland’s four singles players — Lauren Croyle, Zoe Zapf, Jessica Hitchcock and Grace Smith — combined to lose just three games en route to all recording straight-set sweeps.

The Grizzlies’ strong play only continued in doubles action.

All four of Ashland’s doubles teams finished with straight-set victories, including Grace Johnson and Molly Bloom winning 7-5 in the second set to edge North Medford’s Ava Parducci and Aubrey Sandler.
