Rotarians name Student of the Month
The Rotary Club of Ashland at its meeting today, May 10, will award its Student of the Month award to Ian Shibley-Styer.
Ian is a senior at Ashland High School, and a phenomenal student, athlete and community member, according to the club’s announcement of his selection. He has a 4.0 GPA, is a varsity soccer goalie on AHS’s championship team and a varsity basketball athlete.
Ian was selected as an AHS scholar-athlete by his teachers. He was a contestant in the Grizz Pageant, and is the M.C. this year raising money for Asante Ashland Community Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit. On top of all that, Ian is a student tutor, fresh start counselor, helps with elementary and middle school basketball camps and more. He will attend Oregon State University’s honor college this fall to study engineering.
Ian is clever, witty, snarky, nuanced, blatant, and known for making ingenious remarks, according to those who know him. He takes his education seriously and works very hard, yet there is a refreshing light-heartedness about Ian. He believes meeting challenges can and will be fun. Ian’s classmates like him and look to him as a leader, thus his attitude is infectious.
Ashland Rotary said it is proud to acknowledge student accomplishments at all levels and inspiring to recognize excellence. The Rotary Students of the Month are students who have been recognized by the faculty and staff of their school as being superior in academics, leadership and involvement in school and extracurricular activities. Ian exemplifies the very best of all these attributes, the club concluded.
