Ashland softball team splits pair in second day of Bend tournament
BEND — Ashland dropped a 12-4 decision to Marshfield then defeated North Salem 13-3 in six innings at the Central Oregon Tournament on Tuesday.
In the Grizzlies' opener against Marshfield, Georgia Williams and McKenna Read each had two hits and one RBI.
Home runs by Teresa Lehman and Grace Lenthe sparked Ashland's 11-hit attack against North Salem. Lehman went 3-4 with three RBIs and Lenthe provided two hits and four RBIs. Lenthe went the distance on the mound — allowing two earned runs and striking out eight.
The Grizzlies also received two hits each from Williams and Anay Philpott.

At Phoenix, Ariz., Ashland collected nine hits but committed six errors in suffering its first loss of the season, 7-3, to the Colorado team at the Greenway Festival.
Nick Sanderson homered for the Grizzlies.
Ashland (3-1) plays Brighton, Colo., at 10 a.m. today.

College Track and Field
At McMinnville, A steady effort led Southern Oregon sophomore Anna Reitman (Winston, Ore./Douglas) to sixth place in the heptathlon Tuesday at the Linfield Multis at Maxwell Field.
Linfield's Olivia Bannerot won the 13-person competition with 4,049 points and Reitman totaled 3,434.
Reitman – who finished eighth at last year's Cascade Conference Multi-Event Championships – had her best showing in the 800-meter race, placing second in 2:25.79.
She was between sixth- and 10th-place in every other event and posted a CCC qualifying mark in the high jump (4-6.75).
Bannerot was first in the high jump, long jump and javelin.
