Rinefort leads Grizzlies to rout of Crater
CENTRAL POINT — After playing three games in six days, fatigue was a factor for the Crater boys soccer team, which had a difficult time containing Ashland’s offense Thursday.
The Grizzlies received two goals from Ian Rinefort and earned a 5-1 Midwestern League-opening victory at Crater High School.
Bryce Rollins got the Grizzlies (4-1) started in the ninth minute by heading in their first goal on a corner kick from Joseph Wallner-Scentle.
Ben Lucero and Kai Cheval also scored in the first half for Ashland, giving the Grizzlies the 3-0 halftime advantage.
Rinefort made both of his goals in the second half on free kicks, the second was on a pass from Kip Parowski, who had two assists in the match.
Freshman Jadyn Budrow netted in the 53rd minute for the Comets (2-3).
Lilly Annen scores a hat-trick and Ashland beat Crater 6-0 in the first Midwestern League match for both teams Thursday at North Mountain Park.
The Grizzly’s Mya Elder-Hammond kicked in two goals and Olivia West contributed with a goal of her own.
The Grizzlies improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in Midwestern League play.
At Eugene, Ashland used its aggressive serving to keep North Eugene off balance, resulting in a 25-16, 25-18, 25-23 Midwestern League win Thursday.
Myla Norvell collected 10 kills, six aces and eight digs for the Grizzlies (3-3, 3-2 MWL) while Alex Crane went for 10 kills and three aces.
Grizzlies libero Julia Senestraro chipped in 14 digs.
