Ashland golf teams begin season at North Medford Ice Breaker

MEDFORD — The Ashland High School boys and girls golf teams finished fourth and fifth, respectively, at the North Medford Ice Breaker event held at Rogue Valley Country Club on Monday afternoon.

On the boys’ side, the pair of Sam Gander and Kevin Iriawan had the best score of Ashland’s three entrees, shooting an 82, which tied for the fourth-lowest total of the day.

Johnathan Ferriera and Dylan Lowery finished with a score of 85, while the duo of Kadyn Kimbrough and Guss Senn shot an 86.

South Medford shot a round-low score of 159.

The Grizzlies had two of the three possible pairs take part in the girls’ opener.

Ginny Cotton and Sophia Rooney combined to shoot an 88 for team-low score honors.

Ashland faces Hidden Valley High School at Grants Pass Country Club on Monday, March 19.

Four Raiders make winter Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete list

ASHLAND — Three Southern Oregon University basketball players and a wrestler have been named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes, the last of which were announced Monday by the national office.

To earn recognition, one must be a junior or senior academically, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better, and have been enrolled their current institution for at least one year.

The Raider men’s basketball team put senior business major Kenny Meyer and junior chemistry major Tristen Holmes on the list. The Raider women were represented by senior chemistry major Toria Bradford, and senior pre-physical therapy major Tanner Canaday represented the SOU men’s wrestling team.

Bradford and Meyer both became two-time honorees. A total of 31 Raiders from the fall and winter teams have earned recognition this year.
