Grizzlies get no-hit in 12-0 loss to Churchill
EUGENE — The Ashland High baseball team’s bats proved to be no match for Churchill starting pitcher Cole Wilkinson, as the senior left-hander threw a five-inning no hitter in the Lancers’ 12-0 win over the Grizzlies on Tuesday morning.
Of the 15 outs Wilkinson recorded against the Grizzlies, 11 of them came via strikeouts (seven looking and four swinging).
Ashland has lost three straight games since picking up its first win of the season against Springfield eight days ago on March 24.
Churchill (14-7 overall, 11-5 MWL) scored all 12 of its runs in the first three innings, including a six-run bottom of the first against Ashland starting pitcher Luke Brown.
The Lancers’ Carson Lydon and Richie Estrella each drove in three runs in the win.
The Grizzlies (1-20, 1-15) had four runners reach base despite getting no-hit, all coming on walks by Wilkinson.
Ashland hosts Churchill in a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m. at North Mountain Park on Friday afternoon.
