Ashland boys golf team wraps up 2018 season at districts
CRESWELL — The 2018 season for the Ashland High boys golf team came to a close at Emerald Valley Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon.
Kadyn Kimbrough had the lowest combined score any of the five Ashland golfers in the district tournament, shooting a 91 on Monday and a 95 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 33rd with a 186.
Jonathan Ferreira improved 15 strokes on his score from Monday’s opening round to shoot an 89 and finish in 42nd place with a 193.
Rounding out the rest of the group was Gus Senn (195, T-43), Kevin Iriawan (198, T-45) and Rylan Rogers (209, 59th).
As a team, Ashland finished in 11th.
To advance to the state tournament, the top 10 individuals and top four teams qualify.
Thuston 17, Ashland 0: At Springfield, the Grizzlies fell behind big early and never recovered as they fell to the Colts, the Midwestern League’s first-place team, in five innings.
Thurston starting pitcher Decker Stedman allowed one hit in four shutout innings, striking out five and walking four over that span.
Eli Westrick, Nick Buccino and Ian McKenna-Wood each had a hit for Ashland (1-23 overall, 1-18 MWL) in the game.
Six of Thurston’s 15 hits in the game were doubles, while six different Colts had multi-hit games.
The two schools face each other on Saturday in the final doubleheader of the season starting at 1 p.m. at North Mountain Field.
