PREP ROUNDUP: Grizz swept by Comets

Crater was in control from both the pitcher’s circle and the plate as the Comets swept Ashland. 16-2 and 14-0, in their Midwestern League doubleheader season-opener at North Mountain Park on Thursday afternoon.

In Game 1, which lasted just six innings because of the 10-run mercy rule, pitcher Megan Wagner picked up the win for the Comets (5-1, 2-0 MWL), striking out nine across six innings where she allowed just two runs on five hits.

The Comets’ Hannah Joseph hit a home run and came up with three hits, as did teammate Kaila Lee.

Grizzlies freshman Gabby Heiken launched her first career home run — a solo shot in the first inning.

In the nightcap, Joseph tossed a two-hit shutout while Presley Robison and Haley Hillyer went for three hits apiece and Lee added a homer.
