GONZALEZ HONORED BY CCC: Southern Oregon senior Rhett Gonzalez was voted the Cascade Conference’s Red Lion Men’s Track Athlete of the Week on Monday after clinching a spot in the NAIA Outdoor Championships over the weekend.
At the Willamette Invitational, Gonzalez won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.52 seconds — good for the No. 2 time in the SOU record book and the No. 4 time on this season’s NAIA performance list. His mark was well under the NAIA ‘A’ standard of 14.75.
A product of Salinas, Calif., three weeks ago Gonzalez became an All-American at the NAIA Indoor Championships with a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles. He’ll be competing at the NAIA Outdoor Championships with the Raiders for the first time this spring.
SOU will bring a small contingent this weekend to the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
