Ashland's Annen signs to play at Chapman
Ashland High senior soccer player Lily Annen signed a letter of intent during a ceremony at the school on Monday to play for Chapman University in Orange, California.
Annen was a first-team all-Midwestern League forward for the Grizzlies. She scored a team-high 10 goals for the relatively young squad and proved to be a leader on the pitch.
“We had a very young and inexperienced team around her,” said Ashland coach Eric Wolff. “Lily was regularly double-teamed and that was usually not enough to stop her, and she was a master at splitting defenders.
“She had an impact in every goal this year by scoring, or drawing defenders away from others to score. And she regularly helped in the midfield and even on defense, when needed.”
Annen also was awarded a Presidential Scholarship.
Ashland went 4-7-2 overall and 3-3-2 in the MWL, placing sixth.
Chapman is an NCAA Division III school that is a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC).
The Panthers were 10-10 overall and 6-8 in conference last season. Eight of their 11 starters are slated to return next season.
