Westrick, Carter earn all-state honors
The Ashland High baseball team’s quick turnaround after a one-win season a year ago continues to be recognized this week.
Junior pitcher/infielder Eli Westrick and sophomore outfielder Nathan Carter both earned all-state honors in Class 5A, it has been announced, with the former being named to the second team while the latter was an honorable mention selection.
Both Westrick and Carter were named first-team all-MWL selections last week in a vote by the league’s coaches.
Westrick, the Grizzlies’ ace on the hill the last two seasons, finished 9-1 with one save and a 1.87 ERA. In 632/3 innings, Westrick struck out 56. He also batted .272 with 24 runs and nine RBIs.
Carter hit .269 with 15 runs and 17 RBIs to share team-high honors with Nick Buccino and Rowan Amann.
Ashland, which finished the 2019 season 16-10 overall and in third place in the MWL standings, was eliminated in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs two weeks ago.
Also in 5A, Eagle Point junior infielder Kolbi Blevins and sophomore outfielder Darin Marsh received honorable mention recognition.
