Pilots' 11-run inning leads the way in win

Roman Amann and the Ashland Pilots erupted for 11 runs in the third inning as the local American Legion A squad topped the Cascade Rogue Legion 15-2 in five innings at Hunter Park on Thursday.

To start the bottom of the first inning, the Pilots set up the cleanup hitter Amann nicely by loading the bases and he came through with a bases-clearing double that put Ashland up 3-0. Rowan later scored in the frame on an error to put the Pilots ahead 4-0.

Amann added an RBI single during the Pilots’ 11-run third. He scored twice in the frame as the Pilots brought 13 batters to the plate.

The Pilots’ five-man pitching platoon combined to allow just one hit and two runs, only one of which was earned.

Amann finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored while Eli Westrick went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, and Miles Ransweiler went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

The Pilots’ Tyler Poland drove in two runs and scored twice and teammate Nick Buccino crossed home plate three times.
