Defense leads Grizzlies past Henley
KLAMATH FALLS — The Ashland High boys soccer team’s defense put forth a strong showing from the opening kickoff onward, leading the Grizzlies to a 3-1 nonleague win over Henley on Monday night.
Carson Pindell connected in the 27th minute for the Grizzlies (5-2), who seized a 1-0 halftime lead.
The Grizzlies’ Scott Gustafson collected a pass from Kona Makai and scored to give Ashland a 2-0 lead at the 57-minute mark before Noah Aguilar further padded the lead with a steal at Henley’s end of the field and came up with a 70th-minute goal.
Grizzlies goalkeeper Gabe Giancarlo registered five first-half saves and, although he gave up a garbage-time goal in the final minute of the match, Zander Huston played well in-goal with a pair of saves.
