AHS ROUNDUP: Grizz boys top Thurston

At Springfield, team captain Sam Austin had all three Ashland goals to lift the Grizzlies to a 3-1 win over Thurston in a Midwestern League clash on Saturday.

After Thurston scored the first goal of the game, Mario Jacobsen sent a crossing pass to Austin, who scored Ashland’s first goal in the 27th minute. Austin then followed up one minute later with a header off a cross from Lucas Poareo Davidson to give the Grizzlies (6-2, 3-0 MWL) a 2-1 halftime lead.

Ashland then put on the clamps defensively to shut out the Colts scoring while Austin scored again in the 55th minute off an assist from Scott Gustafson.

The Grizzlies used two goalkeepers, Gabe Giancarlo and Zander Huston, to turn away seven shots on goal by Thurston.
