Grizzlies thump Churchill to remain unbeaten

Senior quarterback Rieger Sayre threw five touchdown passes as fifth-ranked Ashland rolled to a 66-27 win over Churchill in its Midwestern League opener at Walter A. Phillips Field.

The Grizzlies improved to 5-0, while Churchill dropped to 0-5

Sayre, a senior, completed 16 of 27 passes for 289 yards. His scoring strikes were 14 and 17 yards to Logan Sanford, 77 yards to Austin Harris, 12 yards to Gabe Ekwall and 23 yards to Nolan Rinefort.

Sayre added 75 yards rushing on only seven carries to lead the team. DaMario Watson gained 72 yards on 11 carries and scored from 5 and 8 yards.

With the help of his long TD, Harris paced the receivers with 122 yards on two catches. Sanford had seven catches for 74 yards.
