Skeletal remains found on Roxy Ann trail identified

JCSO Photo Personnel from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office are shown recovering the remains of a person on a trail to Roxy Ann Peak Trail Jan. 11.

Skeletal remains found Jan. 10 off a trail to Roxy Ann Peak have been identified as belonging to Armando Leigh Soto, 33.

Soto lived in the Medford area since 2015, and was reported missing in June of 2020, according to a press release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday. Soto was originally from Yuba City, California, the sheriff’s office reported.

The identification was confirmed by physical examination and 2019 dental records obtained from Oregon State Hospital, police said.

An Oregon State Police forensic pathologist performed an autopsy Tuesday on Soto at the OSP Morgue in Central Point.

There was no evidence of injury, trauma or suspicious circumstances, the release said. Cause and manner of Soto’s death were listed as undetermined because of the body’s advanced decomposition, police said.

A man reported finding Soto’s remains the evening of Jan. 10. Sheriff’s office detectives, search-and-rescue personnel and human remains detection dogs scoured the site and recovered Soto the next day.
