Lease would ease parking squeeze
The Medford Urban Renewal Agency is seeking a lease on a strip of landadjacent to downtown railroad tracks to ease an impending squeeze on parking.
The agency seeks the land, about 50 feet wide between Main and Fourthstreets, to offset the loss of parking during the construction of a three-levelparking structure, said Don Burt, agency director. The agency has offeredto lease the property from Scott Henselman.
The construction, expected to take 13 months, will displace 168 street-levelparking spaces. The structure will provide 390 spaces.
Groundbreaking is scheduled for noon July 29.
Takenaka USA Corp., an American subsidiary of a Tokyo company, bid $4.75million on the project. It was the low bidder among three; BDM Construction,a Southern California company with offices in Medford, bid $5.27 millionand Medford-based Batzer Construction Co. bid $5.31 million.
