Boston Market closes doors

A truck hauls away the sign as workers pack up furniture Monday.

The Boston Market restaurant at 1250 Biddle Road closed for good on Sunday.

The restaurant's sales fell short of expectations, said Chris Dickinsen, vice president of marketing.

We study these for a long time before we'd close a store,Dickinsen said.

She said the company wasn't sure why the Medford restaurant, which openedin August 1996, had trouble attracting business.

Only one other Boston Market in the Pacific Northwest has closed, andthat was a Bremerton location that became overcrowded with competing BostonMarkets.

The restaurant employed about 20 people, said Medford manager Manny Packing.

The restaurant, specializing in family-style take-home meals, was operatedby BC Northwest, which has 58 of the restaurants in Washington and Oregon.

Boston Markets are franchised by Boston Chicken Inc. and include morethan 1,100 restaurants.
