People's Bank official earns state SBA honor

Jerry Burns of People's Bank of Commerce has been named Oregon financial services advocate of the year by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Burns, the Medford bank's senior vice president and SBA manager, was honored at a dinner last week in Portland.

Burns helped develop Western Bank's successful SBA program before moving to People's Bank last year, where he has begun building a similarly successful program. Within three months, People's Bank has risen to 15th in number of SBA loans through the Portland district office.

The annual awards were presented in honor of the state's Small Business Week, which runs through Saturday.

U.S. Bank donates $15,000 to credit group

Southern Oregon Women's Access to Credit was awarded a $15,000 grant by U.S. Bank, the bank announced this week.

The bank recently awarded grants to 24 nonprofit organizations in Oregon.

Southern Oregon Women's Access to Credit works to provide services and programs for women interested in self-employment.

Ray's to raise $70,000 to children's group

Ray's Food Place expects to raise nearly $70,000 for the Children's Miracle Network in Oregon and northern California.

The grocery chain has held and will hold auctions, bake sales, carnivals and food fairs to raise money. It also has coin drop canisters and paper balloon sales at stores. A golf tournament is scheduled for June 19 at Cedar Links Golf Course in Medford.

Donations to the children's charity will benefit pediatrics at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene, Children's Hospital Medical Foundation in Oakland, Calif., and UC-Davis Medical Center in Davis, Calif.
