Marta Boyett, general manager of Ashland Community Food Store, has been awarded the 1999 Sam Walton Business Leader award.
The award, handed out to 1,600 business people nationwide, is sponsored by the Wal-Mart Foundation and the Wal-Mart store in Talent. Boyett was selected by the Ashland Chamber of Commerce to receive the award; the chamber got a $500 grant in Boyett's name from Wal-Mart.
The award recognizes business people who exemplify the principals of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton: respect for the individual, service to customers and a commitment to strive for excellence.
has been hired as executive chef at Callahan's Siskiyou Lodge.
Shaw, a member of the American Culinary Federation, has overseen kitchen operations at several Rogue Valley restaurants including the Red Lion Inn, the Holiday Inn, The Burgundy House, the Jacksonville Inn and the Red Baron Restaurant. He also co-hosted food feature shows on public access television for three years.
Dr. Paul Sternenberg
has joined Southern Oregon Orthopedics' office in Suite 180, 1698 E. McAndrews Road.
Sternenberg completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Boston University Medical Center. He is a graduate of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo., and Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill.
has been promoted to senior vice president for construction materials for Knife River Corp., the parent company of LTM Inc.
Schneider, who lives in Medford, had been serving as vice president of operations/construction materials. He has been with Knife River since 1993.

Kounz will serve as office manager and client service representative. She has worked in the financial service industry for more than 23 years.
Dr. Terresa Jung
and Susan Yount
have joined the staff of OB/Gyn Health Center in Medford.
Jung completed her medical school and residency in June 1999 at Michigan State University in Lansing, Mich. She is board eligible in obstetrics and gynecology.
Yount is a certified nurse midwife who completed her master's degree in nursing and midwifery training at the University of Texas at El Paso. She was named the school's graduate student of the year in April.
has joined Diversified Mortgage in Medford as a loan officer.
She has four years experience in local finance and escrow services.
New officers have been elected to the board of the Medford chapter of Credit Professional International.
The new officers are: Susan Colby of Southern Oregon Credit Service, president; Carmen Hernandez of Rogue Federal Credit Union, vice president; Vikki Ewen of Quality Process Serving, secretary; and Ron Coots of Ron's Recovery Service, treasurer.
