Dalton Straus, a longtime Jackson County rancher, has been elected chairman of the Oregon Beef Council, which does promotion, education and research for the state's beef industry.

Straus, who owns Straus Ranches of Central Point with his wife, Ruth, was appointed to the council in 1998. They have a cattle operation and also grow alfalfa hay, grass hay and grain.

Two other people were also elected to the beef council: Louise Grothe of Lakeview as vice-chairwoman and Peggy Biaggi of Bonanza as secretary-treasurer.

Diane Zieser

has been hired as senior trust officer for South Valley Bank & Trust's Medford office.

Zieser has 19 years' banking experience in the Rogue Valley and previously worked at Wells Fargo Bank's Medford branch as vice president and trust department manager. She will administer trust accounts in Medford, Coos Bay, North Bend, Bandon, Gold Beach and Brookings.

Connie Burns

has joined Standard Insurance Co. as an agent in Jackson and Josephine counties.

Burns, of Medford, has more than 17 years' experience managing businesses. She attended Southern Oregon University and has been a licensed tax preparer. She is based in the company's office at 100 E. Main St., Suite B, in Medford.
