sets record for total passengers
The growth continues for Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport.
August was the busiest month in the airport's history in terms of passengers, airport officials said Tuesday. A record 47,564 passengers passed through the airport -- topping the mark set in August 1998 by 247.
While the holiday season is the busiest time for large airports, Medford's sees the highest traffic in the summer months, according to marketing director Kim Stearns.
The growth is expected to continue, especially with the addition of direct flights to Los Angeles. Those flights begin Oct. 31.
earns $1.2 million during third quarter
ROGUE RIVER-- Valley of the Rogue Bank's parent company made $1,208,000 during the third quarter, the company announced Tuesday.
The earnings are slightly higher than a year ago, when VRB Bancorp earned $1,180,000. This year's third-quarter profits break down to 14 cents a share -- essentially the same as a year ago.
Though the gains may seem modest, company officials said internal improvements were made during the third quarter that cut short-term earnings but are expected to pay off over time.
Valley of the Rogue has 13 branches along the Interstate 5 corridor in Southern Oregon and employs more than 190 people.
