Porch BBQ will remain open
JACKSONVILLE -- Rumors of the Back Porch BBQ's demise are misguided. It's the Back Porch Gift Shop that's closing.
Sue Collins, who owns the Back Porch BBQ with her husband, B.T., says many people have confused the two.
We've had tons of calls, says Collins, adding that business has slowed as well. The Back Porch BBQ is at 605 N. Fifth St.
The Back Porch Gift Shop, at 120 W. California St., will close Saturday. The store's owner, Sue Casebeer, is retiring, an employee said.
landscapers fined for having no license
Four Rogue Valley landscapers have been fined by the Oregon Landscape Contractors Board for working without licenses, the board announced this month.
Douglas Smith of Medford's R&W Landscape Maintenance was fined $2,000, Gary L. Ray of Central Point's New World Landscaping $1,000, Gregory Barker of Grants Pass' Applegate Landscape and Design $1,000, and Francisco Guzman of Rogue River $600.
Ray is the only of one the four who now holds a license, according to the board.
Alliance gets $5,000 grant
The Upper Rogue Regional Tourism Alliance has been approved for a matching grant of $5,000 from the Oregon Tourism Commission.
The funds are provided by Oregon lottery revenues and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Community Assistance Program.
The group will use the funding to expand its marketing capacity, focusing on tourists en route to Crater Lake National Park while promoting the region as the gateway to Oregon's only national park, according to Alma Spicer, alliance chairwoman.
