Express opens in new hangar
Airborne Express moved to a new 4,200-square-foot hangar at the Medford airport Monday.
The shipping company's location is Hangar J-9 off Peck Road. It had operated out of a smaller hangar at the airport for six years. The new one is large enough to accommodate 11 vehicles for loading and unloading; three vehicles was the maximum at the old location.
It is open to the public for dropping off and picking up packages from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. The phone number is 770-2453. Customers who want to pick up packages are encouraged to call ahead.
Air-Crane delivers helicopter
CENTRAL POINT-- Erickson Air-Crane delivered the first of three Sikorsky SH-3H Sea King helicopters to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department over the weekend.
Erickson is refurbishing the three former naval helicopters for the sheriff's department, which plans to use them in search-and-rescue operations.
To convert the helicopters from military to public use, the company is modifying the airframe, fuel system and electrical systems. Fuel cells and landing gear have to be modified and some military features -- such as torpedo hardware and chaff dispensers -- were removed because they aren't needed for civilian use.
