Mapleton of L.A. buys radio stations

Mapleton Communications of Los Angeles has purchased Marathon Media Medford, general manager Bret Fox announced Wednesday.

"Our listeners shouldn't notice," Fox said. "Our clients will see a new letterhead, otherwise it's business as usual."

Marathon Media has operated stations KTMT-AM/FM, KCMX AM/FM, KAKT-FM and KBOY-FM. since Nov. 1999. This is Mapleton's first entry into the radio broadcast industry, but it is expected to build to 30 stations by the end of the year and double that within the next year, Fox said. Marathon Media owned 28 stations, mostly in the midwest.

"(Mapleton) will be a stronger company," Fox said.

Fox said layoffs are not expected and Mapleton has already suggested hiring an additional disc jockey for their country station.
