Hotel builders plan June opening
Plaza Inn in Ashland takes reservations as it prepares for Shakespeare Festival season
ASHLAND — Plaza Inn and Suites, a 91-room hotel situated a little more than a block from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, should be finished in June.
A & A Construction and Development of Spokane, Wash., the builders, will retain ownership of the hotel on Central Avenue. The Hotel Group of Edmonds, Wash., will manage the hotel.
We've been taking reservations since the beginning of the year, said Rob Lee, regional operations manager for The Hotel Group. We have close to $100,000 in booked business.
The first reservations are for late in June in case construction lags. But Lee hopes the hotel can open early in the month.
Standard rooms, executive rooms and suites will be available. An outdoor spa, terrace and fitness center are part of the hotel. It won't have a restaurant but will offer continental breakfasts in the morning and snacks after plays.
A sales director has been hired and interviews are under way for a general manager. During the busiest season, the hotel expects to have 30 employees.
The hotel group manages 25 properties in the West, including units for major chains and independents like the new hotel.
The hotel totals 47,678 square feet. There is 21,401 feet of underground parking. Permits for the project were issued prior to the city's establishment of a 45,000-square-foot size limit on buildings in 1992.
